As you are all aware, both my husband and I have been eating better, exercising, and losing weight. We hate to call it a “diet” but rather, a lifestyle change, and it’s working wonders. I have always limited my children’s junk food intake (much more than my own) and make sure they do more than just sit around watching TV or playing video games. I want to keep them fit and healthy and take pride in the fact that they are. I am now cooking even healthier meals for the family, and Maddie, our 4 year old, often exercises along with me daily while Bub naps and Makenna is at school.
When an opportunity came up to review Playful Planet’s Storyland Yoga DVD I jumped at the chance for my children to experience yoga specifically geared toward children. Storyland Yoga is an award winning DVD, geared toward children ages 3-8, that engages children’s imaginations through storytelling. Narrated and taught by certified children’s yoga instructor Ahmed Fahmy, he guides children through two fun filled adventures, “Save The Whale” and “Condor Trek” that both infuses children with an eco-conscious message and teaches then yoga poses using animal imitations.
I got the girls dressed in some cute comfy clothes and they were excited to do yoga since they’ve seen Mommy do it a few times. I would have tried it with them, but I had just finished my own intense workout before putting the DVD on for them, so Mommy will participate next time! I figured they would like doing the DVD, but their actual reactions surpassed my expectations. They loved doing the poses and following the storyline!
My girls LOVED Playful Planet’s Storyland Yoga! They and have since asked to do it again 2-3 times. I’m happy they enjoyed it and that it wasn’t a chore for them. I also noticed it helped them focus and relax a bit for the day (which yoga does for me as well!)
