Heidi has also written What To Expect When You’re Expecting, (dubbed the pregnancy bible and read by over 93% of pregnant women) Eating Well When You’re Expecting, What To Expect Pregnancy Journal And Organizer, What To Expect Before You’re Expecting, and What To Expect Baby Sitter’s Handbook which have all sold a total of over 34 million copies in the US alone and are published in more than 30 languages! She also has an interactive website WhatToExpect.com and has created the What To Expect Foundation, a non profit organization dedicated to helping underprivileged families have healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries, and happy healthy babies.
Here is a short excerpt from this new book, which gets released today, so that you may become familiar with the format. I love how it’s easy to read, easy to follow, and actually pretty funny.
Behavior: Bedtime Battles
Explanation: It’s hard to break for bedtime when you’re the Energizer Bunny, with so much to do, explore, discover, and make a mess with. Plus- transitions are all kinds of tricky for toddlers – especially a transition that has you going from awake (running around, playing, having fun) to asleep (lying down, in the dark–bummer)
Solution: Apply the brakes gradually, rather than expecting your tot to go from 60 to 0 in a matter of minutes. Build a predictable bedtime routine that relaxes, soothes, and gradually unwinds your toddler- and eases the transition from awake to asleep. Include a warm bath, a light snack that combines protein and complex carbs, cozy cuddles and storytime, and consistent, comforting, goodnight ritual.
I received a copy of What To Expect The Second Year and the first word that comes to mind is thankful! I figured that after 3 kids, two of which are already past the second year, I knew most of the answers in this book without having to ask. Being that my older two children are girls, and our youngest, a boy, I was totally wrong. Boys are different creatures, and I mean more than just anatomy wise. Bub, who will be 3 in early May, is more immature, babyish, and risk taking than our girls were. He is also not interested in the potty much and is going through a phase of taking off his clothes constantly, again, much different than our daughters!
What To Expect The Second Year answered some much needed questions for me and I will continue to use it as needed until our little man matures and grows a bit more. Also, I’m excited to be able to pass it on down to a friend once I’m finished with it. It’s another must have for parents, new or experienced!
