I’m a big stickler when it comes to my children reading or being read to. I feel it’s extremely important and I think the fact Makenna finished school today with having read the most minutes in her first grade class this year (3,660) is the perfect evidence of where I stand. I also like for my children to enjoy what they read and let’s face it, it’s not going to be chapter books ALL of the time. We’re currently receiving Discovery Girls magazine as well as having received a Fab Girls book to review! Makenna feels grown up (in a good healthy way) when reading it. It’s certainly age appropriate and I really feel that it gives her a self esteem boost. If nothing else, it let’s her know that she is not alone with feelings and issues she’s experiencing right now. I remember being a tween and just wanting to feel “normal” while so many changes in life where happening around me and even to my own body. Reading her magazine gives her a leisurely break from her usual book reading and bonus, she loves seeing mail with her name on it! Go Discovery Girls!
