It’s smack dab in the middle of summer and while most of us are enjoying time spent at the pool, having BBQ’s or even camping at the lake, there are some of us that, unfortunately, have to deal with other issues. Some common summer problems are cuts, scrapes, poison ivy, poison oak, and my number one dreaded problem, lice! Luckily, Tec Labs has been here since 1977 to help protect consumers and industrial workers with products that protect, relieve, prevent and repel so that you can enjoy life itch-free, infection-free and lice-free. To help our summer and back to school preparation become more enjoyable and stress free, Tec Labs has put together a wonderful summer survival package including three of their most popular products.The first of the Tec Labs products is Tecnu original outdoor skin cleanser that removes the rash causing oil, called urushiol, from poison oak, ivy and sumac. It also allows for the natural healing process to begin without recontamination.Tecnu can be used one of two ways. When you know you’ve been around the plants you can remove the oil to help prevent any rash from happening, or, if you have any rash you can remove the oil to keep it from spreading.  A great thing about Tecnu is it can be used on more than just people. It’s perfect for decontaminating pets, clothing, bikes, tools, and much more. Living in Las Vegas my entire life, I have never heard of anyone getting poison oak or ivy. In fact, does either actually grow here? The Tec Labs site actually informed me that poison oak, ivy, and sumac grow in all portions of North America except Nevada, Alaska, and Hawaii. Therefore, we don’t have such issues here and that’s why I’d never heard of even one case. That doesn’t mean we won’t be keeping our supply of Tecnu for when we go on family vacations to California. The kids playing in the inlaws backyard with so many different plants and flowers can now be stress and worry free!


The next Tec Labs product I’d like to share with you is Staphaseptic, which is an antibiotic free, maximum strength antiseptic that should be applied to minor cuts, scrapes, minor burns, insect bites and abrasions in order to help prevent skin infections. Staphaseptic also contains lidocaine, a non irritating gel that helps relieve any pain associated with any owwies. Please remember, routine proper hygiene as well as frequent hand washing and not sharing personal items can help prevent any kind of infection. What child doesn’t fall down and get a scrape or cut? I know even my three year old son’s knees are full of bruises and boo boos. I’m happy to have Staphaseptic on hand to use when an incident occurs, also, I plan to try it myself after my next tattoo session since it relieves itching associated with the healing of all cuts and scrapes, which technically, is what a tattoo is as well.

Finally, we have LiceFree Everyday Shampoo! This amazing Tec Labs product allows us a solution to head lice before their is even a problem. Licefree Everyday Shampoo is a 2-in-1 conditioning shampoo that is made of a homeopathic formula which contains naturally occurring ingredients to create an environment where lice do not like to live, yet, it’s safe for the entire family. It’s designed to be used in place of your regular shampoo and also contains natural moisturizers to help repair damaged hair and soothe your scalp if you’ve recently had to use a lice treatment and are trying to prevent any other recurrences. I have to be honest and say I am almost deathly afraid of any kind of lice issue. Luckily, we have never had any incidents here in our home despite their being an outbreak in Makenna’s kindergarten class two years ago. I feel it’s more common in Kindergarten and younger children, but only because catching lice solely stems from direct contact. Despite many myths, lice can not jump or fly, therefore, they are transmitted solely through direct contact. Right before school starts I plan to go through the “rules” with the girls again. These include how we don’t hug other kids and we never ever wear someone else’s coat, hat, hairbands or bow, etc. I also plan to use the LiceFree Everyday Shampoo on the girls at least once or twice a week to help with our prevention!

I am so happy to have received such a wonderful Summer Survival Kit from Tec Labs , containing all three of these products. I am someone who loves to prevent things before they happen at all costs, rather than treat them later. Perhaps that makes me a worry wart to many, however I just think it makes me aware. I already feel more “armed” when it comes to preventing and treating any common summer issues.
