JumpStart Online Game Review & Giveaway (9/7)

Congrats Comment #55 - Natalie C

The summer isn’t quite over yet. My children still have two weeks before school starts and are in desperate need of something to keep them busy. Even once school is back in session there will be many hum drum weekends where my kids are loudly expressing that dreaded phrase: “We’re bored!” Thankfully I’ve found JumpStart, an online world packed with friends, games and magical adventures where children ages 3-12 can do things like train dragons and explore lost islands, all while getting a fun, educational experience!

You start by registering for an account and installing the JumpStart 3D platform (it’s safe and secure, don’t worry) Then launch the game and allow your kids to explore.  Once logged in to the expansive world, players can visit various areas. The first is an area called StoryLand, aimed at 3-5 year olds. Children can also explore AdventureLand and MarineLand, designed for kids in kindergarten to second grade. In addition, children in 3rd to 5th grade may be interested in checking out FutureLand, geared toward older children. We also just launched our most popular area, the Enchanted Sanctuary, where kids can hatch and raise their own dragons! The wide variety of activities on JumpStart assures your children will always find something that strikes their interest at a particular time and with JumpStart’s parental controls, canned chat, and pre programmed names, you never need to worry about your child’s safety being jeopardized.

Along with your JumpStart membership there are downloadable games and thousands of lessons in case you’d like your child to focus more on a particular area of education or if your child really just loves a particular activity. Also from the makers of JumpStart is their other browser based virtual world, MathBlaster, designed for children 6-12yrs old which Makenna will be visiting today to pump up (or JumpStart) those math skills with her return to school looming around the corner!

Prior to us being able to review JumpStart, my girls have played in this online world before. They loved it and after their trial expired, asked for it for months. When I told them they were able to play it again both of them were giddy with glee. Since they had prior experience there wasn’t any explaining that had to be done. Even if they hadn’t played it before, it isn’t a hard concept to grasp or a difficult thing for kids to get the hang of, which makes being a parent easier.

My girls have enjoyed day after day of exploring JumpStart for the past few weeks and they continue to ask to play it daily. When I asked what their favorite things to do on the site were, Makenna loved creating her own pet while Maddie loved finding coins while her character was dressed as a Cowgirl.

My daughter’s weren’t the only ones who were impressed with Jumpstart. I happened to LOVE the ability to sit them down on the site, set the timer (I only allow them a certain amount of computer time per day) and let them do as they pleased without having to supervise every moment in fear of what was lurking on the internet, which can be a scary place. They enjoyed spending time together and I noticed a considerable drop in arguing during their play time. Each JumpStart membership allows you to add 6 children at no additional cost, so each of my kids can easily enjoy their own JumpStart adventures for one price. I also love the wide variety of educational worksheets offered from JumpStart so they can continue the learning process even after they log off. JumpStart is a perfect, safe, fun activity to boost my children’s education and have a blast at the same time!

GFC follower and I learned that the site is similar to other games but with lots of educational lessons mixed in. Very exciting, since my kids love being able to interact with other kids, but will be learning more at the same time.

I loved that the Math Blaster game is for kids over 10- and that my 10 year old might just be willing to give it a go. We homeschool and I have been looking all over the place for a math game that goes up high enofe for her to use as part of her curriculum – this would do the trick I think.
