I first met the wonderful people at Kiinde at last years’ ABC expo here in Las Vegas. I was briefly shown a new product, not yet on the market, that would safely warm breastmilk and bottles without having to wait a long period of time. I thought it was brilliant, wished it had been available when my children were infants and left my contact information with the Kiinde representatives so that they could contact me when their innovative new product hit the market. Almost a year in the making I am so excited to share this company and their product with you, in hopes that all of you will be as fascinated as I was, and still am.

Kiinde is a US based company inspired by the experiences of fatherhood, and founded by two engineers from MIT. They have a simple goal, to develop products that make life safer and easier for you and your little one. Using MIT trained engineers, Kiinde has worked hard to create a line of products, all designed and assembled in the United States, to simplify, enable, and delight!

The Kiinde Kozii is a breastmilk and bottle warmer that allows you to not have to deal with a screaming hungry baby while you slowly wait for their meal to warm, all while not having to sacrifice safety. Using SAFEHeat, a low temperature, nutrient-safe water bath that is safe for ALL bottle and bag types the Kozii allows you to warm your little one’s meal without exposing bags and bottles to dangerous steam, hot or boiling water, or the microwave. Until SAFEHeat, parents had to choose between safety and convenience.  Conventional steam warmers are very fast, but expose the bottle and its contents to temperatures far above 50C, the temperature at which proteins in breast milk start to denature (break down).  The only alternative was to use a bowl of warm tap water, which is painfully slow and often very inaccurate.  SAFEHeat technology changes everything.  The flowing water bath promotes heat transfer (in the same way that spinning a bottle of wine in a a water bath helps cool it faster), so while the bath is no hotter than warm tap water, it’s as fast as a steam warmer, giving you the best of both worlds.  What’s even better than both worlds is that when the timer expires, the water drains so there is no risk of overheating.  The result is a warmer that is the best combination of safety, speed and convenience on the market. The Kiinde Kozii uses this patent-pending technology, specifically designed to eliminate the risk of hot spots, nutrient damage, and dangerous chemicals that can be released from plastic bottles at high temperatures. This wonderful gadget is also designed specifically to follow CDC and USDA guidelines to safely thaw and warm breastmilk using warm, flowing water. All the convenience without the risk!

We received our very own Kiinde Kozii to review and I’m sure you’re wondering “Mar, you don’t have a baby, an infant, or even a toddler, so how did you test your Kozii?” I’m glad you asked. I put some cold water into a sandwich bag, sealed it shut, and decided to try and warm it in my Kozii. I loved how easy it was to use and I followed the three simple steps shown below and  recommended by Kozii.

After the timer went off, I took out the sandwich bag, opened it up, and felt the warm, comfortable water. No hot spots, no cold spots, no scalding spots, it was honestly the perfect temperature to immediately be able to feed a baby and honestly, I was left a bit shocked that it worked so well and that it was so easy to use. I can’t imagine warming breast milk or formula any other way after trying the Kozii so I suppose it’s safe to say it left me spoiled after one use.

I have since tried our Kiinde Kozii a few times since to warm my coffee (yes, I’m serious) and to experiment a bit. Each time it’s only left me even more impressed than the last. Soon my Kozii will get packed up and stored safely for my little sister and future niece or nephew to use. I’m happy that although I didn’t have this convenience in my life during my baby stage, at least she will, and hopefully, many of you will as well!
