Confessions Of A Suicidal Policewoman Book Review & Giveaway (10/31)

by Marcie on October 4, 2011

This summer I had the opportunity to review and giveaway Confessions Of A Catholic Cop, a novel by Thomas Fitzsimmons, a former NYPD officer stationed in the tough South Bronx area and bodyguard of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones. Although it wasn’t my usual genre I really enjoyed the book which kept my attention from beginning to end and I finished it in record time. You can read that first review and my thoughts HERE. Soon after I was asked if I’d like to read the sequel to that first novel, which was titled Confessions Of A Suicidal Policewoman, and I was excited to bring myself back to the hardcore streets of New York and back inside the mind of Thomas Fitzsimmons!

Synopsis
Police officers Michael Beckett and Destiny Jones are two of the most compelling characters ever created by novelist Thomas Fitzsimmons. Now the author, who has been called “a worthy successor to Ed McBain” by New York Times bestselling author Steven Coonts, returns with a new tale about the wisecracking, deadly duo. Roving the streets and bars of the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Beckett and Destiny are starting to come to terms with their true feelings for one another when their world suddenly shifts gears. An ex-cop recruits Beckett into his gang of “rockers”-a secret society of vigilante cops who protect businesses from shakedowns for a price. A violent drug ring has taken control of an Upper East Side boutique hotel. The gang needs to be cleaned out and an old girlfriend of Beckett’s, an amoral tart who happens to co-own the place, needs saving. This leads Beckett and Destiny into one of the deadliest, most tangled operations of their lives as he pursues the drug kingpin who killed his baby sister, and Destiny is forced to confront life as an invalid or a death with dignity by her own hand.

Review
Usually the sequel to anything, be it a movie or a novel, is never as good as the original. I’m happy to say this is not the case with Confessions Of A Suicidal Policewoman! It, like it’s successor, grabbed my attention from the very beginning and captured it for the  remainder of the story. The characters, whom I got to know from the first story, are re-introduced and the plot, although different from the original is just as exciting and suspenseful. I will say that this book is more emotional than the first, so I automatically felt like this one is geared that much more toward both women and men despite it being a police crime drama. Another round of applause and kudos to Thomas Fitzsimmons on creating another edge of your seat thriller!

About The Author
Thomas Fitzsimmons didn’t need to hire a team of researchers to write gritty crime stories. For Fitzsimmons, it was as simple as recalling his life.Fitzsimmons was raised in a family of career cops in an Irish neighborhood in the Bronx, New York. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Fitzsimmons joined the New York City Police Department. During his 10-year career in the South Bronx precinct dramatized in Paul Newman’s “Fort Apache-The Bronx,” Thomas Fitzsimmons notched numerous arrests, collaring armed robbers, drug kingpins, and arsonists. Currently, Fitzsimmons is a top security consultant to celebrity clients nationwide. A recognized security expert, he has appeared on television shows including “Good Morning America,” “Geraldo Rivera” and “Montel Williams.” Fitzsimmons’s work has been published in Esquire Magazine and New York Magazine. Integrity! I hate the stories of the “bad” cops. It is so disappointing. Thanks so much for the fantastic giveaway!
