I love music. If I’m driving, I am sure to be singing along to almost every song on my Ipod while it’s on shuffle. If I am working out, I have music blasting in my headphones, If I am blogging, I usually have my personal Pandora station going. I have love and respect for every single genre and although I enjoy some more than others, I will listen to everything based solely on my current mood. Recently I have become a partner with Epitaph and Anti Records to help introduce all of you to the newest album releases. My love for music makes me that much more super excited about this partnership!
Kate Bush is one of the most successful and groundbreaking British solo performers of the last 30 years. Her first single Wuthering Heights topped the UK singles chart for 4 weeks in 1978, the same year she released her debut album “The Kick Inside” and its follow-up Lionheart. A year later she played her only concert tour to date, the extraordinarily ambitious “Tour Of Life”. Subsequently Kate released five hugely innovative and influential albums: Never For Ever (1980), The Dreaming (1982), Hounds Of Love (1985), The Sensual World (1989) and The Red Shoes (1993). All 5 were landmark records which consolidated Kate Bush’s reputation as the most experimental artist of her generation.
For my first review, I am excited to bring to you a new album that is being released today! Kate Bush’s 50 Words For Snow for Anti Records features 7 new tracks set against a background of falling snow, with a total running time of 65 minutes; through a highly evocative musical and lyrical landscape this haunting album once again pushes the boundaries. 50 Words For Snow is Kate’s second album release of 2011, following ‘Director’s Cut’ which was released in May to massive critical acclaim. The new album features a small number of special guest musicians including Elton John, Andy Fairweather Low and, on the title track, the British writer/broadcaster/raconteur Stephen Fry.
Although I am being sent 50 Words For Snow on CD, I took the opportunity to listen to it via online stream so that I could have my review written today, on Kate’s album release day. This is something I wasn’t asked to do, but I feel it makes a bigger difference this way.50 Words For Snowimmediately relaxed me. It’s easy listening vibe would be amazing to listen to under a blanket with a glass of win e or while washing away the stress of the day in a bubble bath. This was my first time listening to Kate Bush and I really feel like she brings a mix of Enya and Dido, both of which I adore, with a unique added quirkiness. The songs brought a different kind of warmth to a usually cold time and I appreciated that. Of the seven different new songs, I truly got into them all, but loved Misty most. For a time of year where all you hear is the usual holiday music, I certainly think Kate Bush’s 50 Words For Snow is something different yet just as inviting!
