Don’t you just love the magic on Santa Claus? I have really enjoyed watching my kids get excited to visit Santa each year, behave extra well, and leave him cookies and milk as well as carrots for his reindeer on Christmas Eve. In my eyes it’s part of the innocence of childhood that disappears all too quickly. Our oldest is 7 and a half now. I know she doesn’t have much longer before she starts asking real questions. Sure, she’s asked things like “Why doesn’t Santa die since he’s old?” and we answer magical white lies, but she thankfully has yet to ask outright if he’s real or if it’s us really leaving gifts. Hubs and I have agreed that when the time comes for any of our children to outright ask, we will be honest.
I was recently introduced to The Santa Video, an amazing development that allows parents to create a fun, high quality, video of Santa Claus visiting their very own home. Utilizing green screen technology, parents upload a picture from their home, select a Santa Claus scenario, and let our software superimpose Santa Claus right into your living room! Parents can then visit their streaming video online or download a high quality copy to burn to dvd, edit, or add to youtube.
The entire process is simple and everyone gets to create their video before purchasing, which is a really neat part of the system. The video process consists of three simple steps, 1. choose a picture, 2. select a video of Santa (skit), and 3. select music (optional) – Then click “Done”. The video can then be reviewed and purchased for $14.95, or $10.95 if you like The Santa Video on Facebook and receive the $4 off coupon! Once purchased, the user will receive the video “Instantly” by email, and they can then share the video with a unique streaming link, or download the video to share on Youtube, Facebook, or perhaps burn to DVD or edit further.
I was given a few video codes from the wonderful folks at The Santa Video. I gave one to two different friends of mine with children who might need some “proof” to believe a bit longer. I am saving our own video creation for Christmas Eve. Surprisingly that’s when most people choose to actually make their Santa Videos since children are so observant and notice every minor detail. I want to make sure the picture of the tree area we use to create our video looks exactly as it will the night he pays us a visit so there are no awkward moments where Makenna, or even our younger 5yr old Maddie, can question anything about our video not matching up.
Instead, I played around on The Santa Video website using a current picture of our Christmas tree. It was super simple to do and they did an outstanding job superimposing Santa! He even casts appropriate shadows on our walls as he walks around. There were 8 different Santa skits to choose from and I liked a few of them. I do know I will be selecting the one where he bites a cookie and takes a sip of milk. There are also 4-5 different song selections to choose from including Silent Night, Jingle Bells, & Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairies. I’m not sure if I will actually add music or if I will make it look like we captured him on hidden North Pole camera footage. Either way, I just know this will be a true hit and keep our kiddos believing at least one more year.
